Movie Star Monday #1

Here's another meme that I thought would be pretty fun! I know we all think about our favorite books being made into movies - and even more so, we often daydream which movie stars would play our favorite characters. So why not share with others who we think would be a good fit for our beloved characters? Has the book already been made into a movie? That's fine, you can always discuss whether or not you thought the actor or actress was a good fit, or even suggest ones you thought would've played the role better. Feel free to play along and post your own Movie Star Mondays, just remember to keep my site on the post and feel free to link me back your posts - I'd love to see what you guys come up with! =)

For the very first Movie Star Monday, I'll be talking about Lena from the Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver!

And I've always seen Ella Purnell as playing Lena. Yes, I know, I know - they already did a pilot episode for the Delirium TV show with Emma Roberts. Really, though? Emma Roberts? I knew from the moment I heard she'd be playing the lead that the show would be a flop. I can't say that I hate the girl - I've never met her - but her acting is atrocious. You just can't put the person who played the lead in the crappy show Unfabulous (Ironically, the name of the show was a proper fit) - as well as screwed up a classic like Nancy Drew - and expect it to be a hit.

But I won't go into too much detail about that. For a refreshing new YA television series (or movie), you need an actress who is flexible and knows how to work a part - one who's proven she's a capable actress. Purnell is young, but has played a variety of roles from horror flicks like Intruders to family films such as the wildly popular Maleficent. Not only that, but she looks quite a bit like the model on the front of the books, with soft, round features and brown hair. I know appearance isn't so much an issue, seeing as they can change just about anything about you nowadays, but I always keep that in mind when making out my ideal cast members.

So what do you guys think? Did you think Emma Roberts was a good fit, or do you see someone else as playing Lena? Also, is this a meme you'd like to see more of in the future? And if so, who would you like to see spotlighted? Feel free to let me know in the comment!

  1. She does look so similar to the model on the book cover! I always picture the characters as those on the cover, for some reason.

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that! I know it's a silly thing to get caught up over, seeing as how easy it is to change appearances, but hey - I'm weird like that. Lol.

    1. Sure thing! I'd love to see what everyone else envisions certain characters looking like! Thanks so much - you're blog was beautiful, too! =)

  3. I think Ella is a great fit. That's pretty much how I pictured Lena. You should totally continue with this meme! It's a fun idea. At some point you should pick a better actor for Jace. The guy in the CoB movie was such a creeper. O.O

    1. Thanks! I'll have to give some thought as to who will be featured next Monday.

ROFL! I really need to. He was really creepy. 0.0

  4. I am in the minority here but I don't really look forward to book-to-movie adaptations. I'm glad to see our favorite YA series come to life on the screen though. Anyway, this is such a fun feature. I do agree with your casting although I am not familiar with the actress. I haven't seen the TV adaptation yet so I don't know how Emma Roberts did but I've heard pretty disappointed comments.

    1. I can sympathize. I have a real love/hate relationship with movie adaptations. I'm excited for them, sure, but I also get nervous, as I don't want my favorite books ruined.

I actually wasn't aware of Purnell's work until Maleficent came out a while back. She's a pretty promising actor, though!

And, yeah, I've heard some pretty disappointing things about the show. :/ But honestly, I didn't have high hopes for it.

  5. I don't know much about Ella Purnell, but the photo you chose definitely reminds me of my mental image of Lena! Do you know what's up with that Delirium pilot, anyway? Did it air? I'm very confused xD

    1. Thanks! I thought it was a pretty good fit. =)

The Delirium pilot was filmed, but Fox wasn't impressed, so they didn't agree to air it. You can see the pilot episode on Hulu, though, I believe. I don't think I'll watch it, though. Best to keep my love for Delirium untainted, lol.

  6. Thanks for your amazing comment on my blog. You are just the sweetest, and my goodness! your blog is too cute. :) I love it!

I actually never read Delirium so I'm not really able to give a proper opinion on whether Roberts or Purnell would be better. I do have to say that Purnell certainly looks more like the cover model, like you said. I guess time will tell! Hopefully the show comes out okay since I know it's a favorite of quite a few people! -fingers crossed-

    1. No problem! You're blog was amazing! And thanks for your kind comments, too. =)

You should definitely consider reading the series at some point. It's one of my all time favorite dystopians. I don't think you'd be disappointed!

  8. I really wish the pilot was bought, but I agree that Emma Watson did see like an odd pick for the lead

    1. Yeah, Emma Roberts leaves a little bit to be desired, lol. But it would've been fun to see how it compared to the books.
